Hey there, I'm Fran Murphy, and I'm part of a band called Hypertension. I'm 25 years old and from Paisley, Scotland. I would love it if you'd take a few minutes to listen to our tracks and, if you like them, give us a wee like on Facebook! Thanks!

All of this retro stuff is really getting on my nerves.

There’s no problem with liking old things. Retro items can be beautiful: almost iconic examples of design, etc. The problem I have is this:

HEY, IT’S AN OLD THING. IT’S RETRO. I’LL REBLOG IT BECAUSE THAT STUFF IS COOL RIGHT NOW. I’LL REBLOG IT BECAUSE I WANT TO LOOK COOL AND THOUGHTFUL.

I know some people really do like this stuff, but honestly? I can’t be bothered with the pretentious, vapid, sheep-like desperation of many people these days.

There are so many people hijacking relevant and interesting topics, subjects, looks and cultures because they blandly recognise them as a ‘quick-fix’ for their own shallow lack of ability to interest other people on their own.

Furthermore, the people latching onto these things were, but five years ago, completely unaware of anything. Blissfully so - in fact, proudly so. The kind of kids who’d laugh at old fashioned things because it was expected of them at the time. Because it wasn’t cool to like them. Trust me, I remember you. And I can see through your hipster disguises.

I almost prefer the openly vapid kids out there today. At least they’re being true to themselves, whatever ‘self’ may be in their case.
